Fred Valentine, a former player for the Washington Senators and Baltimore Orioles, passed away on Monday. Age-wise, he was 87.
His demise was acknowledged by the Washington Nationals in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’re saddened by the passing of Fred Valentine. Fred played in 5 seasons for the Senators in the 1960s. May he rest in peace,” the Nationals stated on Twitter.
Valentine’s Major League Baseball career got off to a good start with the Baltimore Orioles. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 1959, but it wasn’t until he joined the Senators that he had a chance to secure a long-term roster berth.
Before eventually going back to play for the Orioles before his retirement, he remained there from 1964 to 1968.
